Non EU/EEA nationals (third country nationals)
Third country students are those whose nationality is non European Union or non European Economic Area country.
Third country students who study in Germany can choose to be enrolled in following two insurance schemes:
The German statutory health insurance offers the basic coverage, including inpatient care, outpatient care, basic dental care and regular check-ups etc (Private hospital, doctors, or specific dental treatments are not covered). The average premium offered is around 90 EUR per month.
Third country students can also choose a private student health insurance. The benefits of private insurance must be equivalent to compulsory statutory insurance. An exemption of the statutory health insurance is necessary. This procedure is provided by private insurance companies.
